Picnic Island #2 - Mothers Day 2009

Dear All

For mothers day this year a whole group of friends decided to have a picnic on a very small island inside the reef. It was a bit of a trek to get there and the weather wasnt all that great but we still had a good day with snorkelling, swimming and fishing.

Hope this finds you all well.

Does it get any better than this!!!!!!!!!!!

Some Place Else - May 3 2009

Hi All

Sometimes you go to places and when you get there you could be anywhere in the world.
We had that experience on a little while ago and it was an unforgettable day.
We decided to visit a little place called Ant Atoll a 45 min trip in the boat out past the reef that surrounds Pohnpei.
We took some friends with us Jeff, Elizabeth and their two girls Devon and Tess.
It was a beautiful crystal clear day and on the way into the lagoon of the atoll we saw dolphins frolicking right up near the boat. The kids were all excited and soon after we anchored near a reef and went snorkelling. We saw lots of fish and rays.
After 30 mins int he water Beru (boat driver) took us to one of the islands. We set up camp for the day and hit the water some more. The place is all that you picture when you think of tropical Islands. It is heaven. We didnt see anyone else for the whole day....a tropical paradise unto ourselves.

Whilst the adults and some kids lazed around in the crystal clear waters Jonah went fishing with Beru with the goal of catching his first fish. .......................And he did.
Zara also joined in on the action and caught her first fish as well.
Beru taught them how to catch bait (hermit crabs) smash the shell and then place it on the hook. They now know how to cast as well. He is so patient with them.

Later in the day Beru cooked the fish on an open fire using leaves to sit them on. It was beautiful. Survivor Micronesia eat your heart out.

Paul's Lifestyle - Fishing Stuff

Hello All
Every Month a fishing tournament is held run by the Pohnpei Fishing Club, of which I am a member.
The tournament has various prizes depending on whom sponsors each event.
Last tournament was a catch-8. Which means the more species you catch on the list, the more chance you have of winning. There are also prizes for the biggest fish in each category.
We caught 3 species on the list and came fourth, but had a good day.
I caught the biggest Giant Trevally and got a $75 gift voucher.

When tournaments arent on I often go out with our neighbour, the mad brazilian "Allois". He owns the jetski from previous photos. He is a mad keen fisherman and also runs the Pohnpei Surf Club where all the pro surfers come to stay. He is a great guy to fish with and was on a bit of a roll hooking 6 Marlin out of 7 trips. ( I wasnt on any of those but saw the aftermath).
So life is good here for me although I do miss golf, I still have my fishing.
